Beginning of Creation

When, at the beginning of creation, Lord Brahma, the first created being, found himself atop a Lotus flower in darkness, he could not understand who he was or where he was.

He looked around in all the four directions, but found nothing but darkness.

He then entered into the center of the stem of the Lotus flower, and traveled to it's base, trying to discover his origin.  He could not find it.

So, he climbed back up the stem, and seated himself in the center of the Lotus and began to meditate.  He wanted to find the Supreme Being within himself, but could not.  He meditated for 100 years, after which he could then perceive the Supreme Being situated within his heart.

He began to offer prayers to that Supreme Lord.  These are extremely sacred prayers from a Vedic text called The Brahma Samhita.

This is the first verse: (Sanskrit then English)

chintamani prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vriksha-

laksavriteshu surabhir abhipalayantam

lakshmi-sahasra-shata- sambhrama-sevyamanam

govindam adi-purusham tam aham bhajami.

I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, the first progenitor who is tending the cows, yielding all desire,

in abodes built with spiritual gems, surrounded by millions of purpose trees, always served with

great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of lakshmis or gopis.

~ Brahma Samhita
